Buy Way Yes' New EP TODAY!!

Travis, Glenn and Max of Way Yes with a friend
I have already expressed my ever increasing love for Way Yes on #EDAS, both in interview form and in dog form. If you have already heard of these amazing minstrels, you have undoubtedly been yearning to indulge in  more of their heartfelt honest lyrics and unique Afro-Brazili-ribbean melodies. Luckily for you and your ears, their brand new Walkability EP is available TODAY from Lefse Records. It is one of the most enjoyable and creative albums I have heard in a long time.

In our last conversation here's what one of the guys had to say in anticipation of the new release:
Records are one of the great art forms in my opinion. Also, the records are what you get to leave behind as tangible proof that you existed. And with the wonders of the InterWeb and Time Capsules there's a good chance they'll always exist in one form or another. I know records aren't as profitable as they used to be, but they're at least being listened to by more people than ever.
To read the rest of our interview about music, life and delicious chicken fingers, you can do so by clicking here. Otherwise the only clicking you should do today should be here to buy Walkability on CD direct from the label OR here to buy it the Mp3's from iTunesBuy it for the 5 amazing original tunes, stay for the 5 remixes.

Below you will find the official video for their title track off the EP, which features the absolutely nothing out of the ordinary if you have ever been to Columbus. I feel like I partied with that blue guy back in my OSU days, in fact he may still owe me money. For a select and lucky few who live in Ohio and New York, Summer tour dates are below with the possibility of more to come. Stay tuned to Way Yes and #EDAS for more as it comes.

Ray Bradbury's Sci-Fi Wisdom

“Sometimes you just have to jump out the window and grow wings on the way down”

~ Ray Bradbury

I'm not much of a Sci-Fi nerd, save for a few recent episodes of the X-Files on Hulu+, but I was saddened to hear of Ray Bradbury's death today. As a literary artist, he was pretty ballsy. I am definitely in full agreement with this quote. Double song today. The first by Psych-Shredders Hawkwind, dedicated to Bradbury's most famous work; the other by #EDAS Favorite, R&R Hall Of Famer and N'awlins cultural savior, Allen Toussaint, is inspired by his motivational words.

30 Months, And We're Just Getting Started!

This weekend saw another half-birthday just fly by. That means my beautiful Every Day, Another Song is now 30 Months old... And we're just getting started!
#EDAS Bidness Cards
Back with another enthralling edition of Rasta Mon-Day, Jimmy Cliff kicks off Celebrate Brooklyn's 2012 season tomorrow beginning at 8:00 at the Prospect Park Bandshell. It seems like only yesterday I was in Central Park covering his amazing 2010 performance at SummerStage. If the weather is anything more manageable than Fire & Brimstone, I suggest you grab an umbrella and prepare to have your Rasta-Socks rocked off.

Here's to many more half-anniversaries.

Help Fund Quiet Loudly's New LP!

One of my favorite Brooklyn bands right now is in the midst of a grassroots efforts to make more music. How can you possibly disagree with that?

It has been several years since the last Quiet Loudly album and they are asking YOU to help support them as they record the next one. Using the popular crowd-funding platform, Kickstarter, they have introduced all sorts of incentives to help them pay the exorbitant costs associated with recording an LP. For a few bucks you can have their most recent album, a few more you get all sorts of SWAG. If you are feeling more generous, these strapping young men will record the song of your choice and even cook you serenaded dinner. At they end they are planning to release an EP with all their crowd-chosen covers on it. They have already raised more money than they set out to, but in the weening hours of their efforts, I'm sure they will take all the last minute help they can get.

I have been a big fan of QL for some time now and I would greatly recommend you donate at least the equivalent of a round of beers to their cause. The earth is in desperate need of more of their grungy, ambient, drowned-out surf sounds and you can help by donating to their  Kickstarter Campaign here, NOW! If you have any more questions, watch their informational video below and listen to their song at the bottom.

What Time is It?

Hump day bumming?
In need of a soul fix?
Let's turn back the clock .

What time is it now? Well, according to the O'Jays, it's time to get down.

Here are some of Ohio's finest with one of the most beautiful RnB songs I know. This one comes off their seminal album Backstabbers. I have heard that these days its being used in a KFC commercial. Usually I would hate on this, but I can't think of any circumstance that could make listening to this song any less enjoyable.

Bringin' back an old #EDAS tradition, this is the first Biggie Sunday in a while. Enjoy the long Memorial Day Weekend with this favorite collaboration between Talib Kweli & DJ Hi-Tek. there are so many amazing lines in this song. My favorite might be:

Filligar Tonight at Mercury Lounge

Poster Design by bassist, Teddy Mathias
Anyone who is anyone will going to be at tonight's sold out Filligar concert as they rock the roof off of Mercury Lounge. More tickets may be available at the door and if you are desperate, you can email me at everydayanothersong@gmail.com I might let you sit on my shoulders under a double length trench-coat.

This is Filligar's last NYC stop before they hit the road supporting the Counting Crows as part of their Outlaw Roadshow Tour. Local dates include a stop at Asbury Park's Stone Pony, Utica's Saranac Brewery, shows in both Cleveland AND Columbus, Ohio, and all sorts of other Canadian, Southern and Mid-Western Dates.

#EDAS has been singing Filligar's praises for over a year now, but people are really beginning to take notice. Nobody mentions these guys without saying they are the best touring band today. I challenge you to find a better live show. The scary part is with a new album in the works, they just keep getting better. Party starts at 9:30, Filligar on at 10:30. See you tonight, be there or be elsewhere.

Smells like Grunge-Hop Fusion

Back-to-back Nirvana posts but Wow... Robert Glasper really blows me away with this jazzy, hip hop fusion cover of Nirvana's "Smells like Teen Spirit". It makes me wish the day was already here when robots control the world and we all talk using vocoders.

Awesome Child Test

This is a no fail test to confirm whether or not a child is awesome. If said child does not have the following reaction, it does not preclude them from being awesome, only from being this awesome.

Kitty Pryde drops OK CUPID

Here's a post from one of our newest contributors, THE BASED DOG.

Kitty Pryde is a white teenager* from Florida who takes her name from an X-Men character and raps. When I say she raps I mean she raps well. On her latest single “Okay Cupid” she spits about some of the traditional problems with internet dating. This particular boy kinda sucks and may or may not like her back. Her rhymes float softly over snares and cosmic instrumentals as she talks about looking forward to 3 am drunk dials from her boo.

If you care who the subject of the song may be, here's a little hint from the video.

In this day and age, she is likely to draw comparisons to Kreayshawn because they’re both white and female and people will hate for those two reasons alone. Internet haters may complain that there’s no room for white girls in rap talking about liking boys but they’re missing the point. You can not like it but you can’t say her words not authentic to her and many others. She’s doing her and doing her well. The last thing this game needs is more actor rapper chattering about supposed crimes and jail times, or even worse... more actor rappers complaining about actor rappers.

*Reports vary as to her actual age, some say 13, 17 or 19. I think she might be 73 and have that Benjamin Button disease.

Do The Dø

I just came across this elegantly raucous bunch called The Dø. In it's simplest form, the group consists of Olivia Merilahti and Dan Levy, a finnish/french duo that puts a dark and powerful Gypsy feel behind some dangerously sexy vocals.  They are crossing the atlantic for a US Tour later this summer with NYC dates at Mercury Lounge and the Knitting Factory

Here they are with a booming live rendition of their newest single 'Slippery Slope."
