Another Song: Status Quo, "Pictures of Matchstick Men"

I've been living in this sugar-cube guitar lick for days. Here's a psych-out classic from Status Quo.

Status Quo - Pictures of Matchstick Men

  1. Memories of younger days, as will be explained: Back in my mid-teenage years, while working at a beer distributor, a fellow compadre named victor (German name) of Mexican descent, exposed me to Status Quo's entire catalog during a period of 3+ years. Needless to say I was well aware of this song and semi surprised to see it posted even though the Blogfather here at EDAS is well versed and has an ever expanding encyclopedia of music in his head. It is rather safe to say that Status Quo's American following was short lived if that. Going back to Victor though, this rapscallion (with all respect, in a good way), loved this band and would give me money to buy their CD's on ebay. One day I accidentally bought a record (vinyl) by mistake and coincidentally it was the album of which this song sits and he was thrilled. Status Quo has gone through many lineup changes over the years, but I'd like to think the brilliant Francis Rossi has kept the soul of the band in tact. So many good songs during the years along with some great album names. I'd have to say the most listened to album of theirs during my time spent working with Vic was Heavy Traffic (solid gold, blues and rhythm, all stand up). Cheers Vic (I know that guy is probably having a beer right now)
